KAIROS

In this latest complex and new era, a reflection comes naturally on the meaning of Time. All of us during quarantine experienced a new relationship with the temporal dimension, which for the first time took on new meanings and values. Following a constricted (co·strìn·ge·re), suspended, digital Time comes the need for an open, fertile, and “moving” (com·muò·ve·re) one. Time belongs to man and man belongs to Time. There is a time that marks the rhythms of sleeping and waking and the alternations of the seasons, a Time that is harmony and music, an earthly "physical" Time that punctuates events, and a universal "heavenly" time that envelops, gathers, and swallows up. There is a time that belongs to each individual, an intimate time, and a collective external and shared time. There is a human Time and a divine Time.

In addition to the canonical conception of time as Chronos (Χρόνος), consequential and linear time, there is Kairos (καιρός): an ancient Greek word that means 'the right, critical, or opportune moment'. Kairos stands for a proper or opportune time for action. In this sense, while Chronos is quantitative, Kairos has a qualitative, permanent nature.

Kairos is the god of the Instant portrayed by a young man holding a razor in one hand on which a scale is resting. he has a large tuft of hair on the front, but on the back he is bald because one has to catch it on the fly, at the appropriate time.  The concept of synchronicity theorized by C.G. Jung represents an opening onto a 'non-time,' or rather a 'qualitative' form of time, the Greek Kairos precisely. Through the intersection of seemingly antipodal elements, synchronicity is represented as a manifestation of the Kairos, an epiphany of the interconnections there are in the universe and of the balance resulting from the coexistence of seemingly sharply contrasting elements.

This collection describes the dichotomy between a virtual, geometric, technical, and immaterial light with a living light like the candle's flame. The grid's decomposition represents a reflection related to Time and our perception of it.
